On 18th October 2022, the European Commission’s Directorates-Generals for Energy and Climate Action and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), in collaboration with the EU Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, organized the Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum- Energy Efficiency Finance Market Forum in Brussels.

The Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum – Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place is an annual conference showcasing successful projects on financing energy efficiency, climate adaptation and innovative energy planning, as well as initiatives working across Europe to facilitate the market for climate and sustainable energy finance.

The conference included plenary sessions with high-level representatives from the European Commission, cities and the investment community. Its objective was to analyze pioneering initiatives that encourage change at local level, such as sustainable plans and strategies for the energy transition, energy efficiency financing in the public and private sector and investments in home renovation.

During the Opening Plenary, high representatives from the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) took the floor to insist about the importance that energy efficiency and renewable energy projects have for local entities, as well as the need for finding appropriate funding for these projects. These representatives were Dirk Beckers, Director, European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), Clara de la Torre, Deputy Director General, Directorate General for Climate Action, European Commission; Matthew Baldwin, Deputy Director General, Directorate General for Energy, European Commission; Tanya Hristova, Mayor of Gabrovo, Covenant of Mayors Ambassador and Chair of the Bulgarian Delegation at the European Committee of the Regions, and Thomas Östros, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB).
